Airport tips

Ho Chi Minh City (SGN)
Tan Son Nhat International Airport is the busiest in the country. It is surprisingly close to the city center, making the commute into town relatively fast. Be prepared for chaotic traffic immediately upon exiting.

Hanoi (HAN)
Noi Bai International Airport is modern and efficient but located about 45-60 minutes from the Old Quarter. Using the airport express bus or a pre-booked Grab is highly recommended over standard taxis.

Da Nang (DAD)
One of the most convenient airports in Southeast Asia. It is located directly in the city center, meaning you can often be at your hotel or the beach within 15 minutes of leaving the terminal.

Hanoi

  • πŸŽ’ Backpackers β€” Old Quarter (Hoan Kiem). The chaotic, charming heart of traditional Hanoi. Famous for its narrow streets packed with street food, "Bia Hoi" (fresh beer) corners, and budget hostels.
  • ⏱️ Best for a Few Days β€” Tay Ho (West Lake). Hanoi's most scenic and relaxed neighborhood, and a welcome contrast to the Old Quarter's chaos. Rent a bicycle and circle the lake at sunrise, visit Tran Quoc Pagoda jutting out over the water, and settle into one of the lakeside cafes for a long afternoon. The sunsets over West Lake are among the best in the city.
  • πŸ‘” Business & Luxury β€” Ba Dinh & French Quarter. Home to embassies, government buildings, and wide, tree-lined boulevards with beautiful colonial architecture and luxury hotels.
  • 🍜 Restaurants β€” Dong Xuan Market Area. Dive deep into the side streets here for arguably the best Pho, Bun Cha, and Banh Mi in the city, hidden in tiny, crowded stalls.
  • 🌳 Family Friendly β€” Ecopark (Outskirts). While a bit out of the city, this massive green urban township is incredibly popular for families seeking fresh air, parks, and spacious living.
  • πŸŽ‰ Nightlife β€” Ta Hien Street. Known internationally as the "Beer Street." It's an intense, loud, incredibly fun sensory overload of plastic stools, cheap beer, and party-goers.

Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)

  • πŸŽ’ Backpackers β€” Bui Vien Walking Street (District 1). The epicenter of Saigon’s backpacker universe. Neon lights, loud music, cheap drinks, and non-stop energy 24/7.
  • ⏱️ Best for a Few Days β€” Thao Dien (District 2) / District 3. Thao Dien is a leafy, upscale escape from Saigon's intensity β€” great restaurants, riverside cafes, and a calmer pace. District 3 is closer to the action but retains elegant French colonial architecture and a more local cafΓ© culture. Together they make a great 2-day change of pace from the District 1 buzz.
  • πŸ‘” Business & Skyscrapers β€” District 1 (CBD). The commercial core featuring the famous Bitexco Financial Tower, upscale shopping malls, and premium international restaurants.
  • 🍜 Restaurants β€” District 4. Located just across the river from District 1, this area is legendary among locals for having the best, most authentic, and diverse street food in Saigon.
  • 🌳 Family Friendly β€” District 7 (Phu My Hung). A highly organized, heavily Korean-influenced district with wide clean streets, international schools, and large green parks.
  • πŸŽ‰ Nightlife β€” District 1 Rooftops & Speakeasies. Beyond Bui Vien, Saigon is famous for its high-end rooftop bars offering panoramic city views and hidden craft cocktail lounges.
